Angela Slade, MA (cand.), Cert. CYC Counsellor, Acting Executive Director email
Angela is a Certified CYC Counsellor and is a member of The Academy of Eating Disorders, The Association for Contextual and Behavioural Science, The International Society for Mental Health On-line, The International Child and Youth Care Network, and The Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care. She is in the final stages of her Masters at the University of Victoria.
Angela has been counselling, teaching, and creating and implementing programs for over a decade in various capacities within the Nanaimo and Duncan community. During her time as a school counsellor in an all-girls international private school she became more interested in helping young girls break-free of the struggle and barriers associated with the eating disorder spectrum. She developed a prevention program for girls ages 11-14 called C.H.I.C’s (Choosing Health and Integrating Changes) and continues to successfully run spring break and summer camps as well as programming in local community schools and organizations. This year she launched CHIClette’s for girls ages 9-10.
Angela further pursued a focus on eating disorders when she entered her Masters program at the University of Victoria. During her studies she completed an 8-month clinical practicum with the Adult Eating Disorders Program in Parksville, BC. She completed orientation at BC Children’s and St. Paul’s Hospital for children, youth, and adult eating disorders. She is a member of the BC Provincial Eating Disorder Communities of Practice. .
Angela is Shore’s Acting Executive Director and a counsellor for the eating disorder program Break Free.

Ray McGuire, M.S.W. email
Ray McGuire holds a Master Degree in Social Work with over thirty years experience. Working primarily in the area of mental health, which he prefers to call the emotional and spiritual well-being of people, he has worked in a variety of practice and cultural settings.
As a counselor he believes in the importance of self-understanding, personal power and choice. Further to this his he values all aspect of the person; emotional, spiritual, mental and physical.
His method of practice focuses on the future and the person’s strengths and resources as a way to helping them recognize how to use their resources to bring about change.

Janice Briggs, M. Ed, Counselling Psychology, Registered Clinical Counsellor
Janice specializes in Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating. In addition, Janice provides clinical supervision for the Break Free Program.
Janice’s counselling training began in 1993 and over the years she continues to develop her skills as a therapist. Although Janice specializes in Eating Disorders she has extensive training and experience in dealing with couples, depression, self-harm, trauma, relationship issues, and interpersonal communication.
Janice draws from humanistic, interpersonal, developmental and positive psychology. She has training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, art therapy, Gestalt and psychodynamic approaches. Janice bases her approach with clients according to each person’s unique needs, and goals.

Board of Directors
Kathryn Knight, MACP, RCC, is in her second term as Chair of the Board of Directors for Shore Counselling. Kathryn has her Masters in Counselling Psychology. She is also a registered clinical counsellor with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors and works in Nanaimo. She has also taken additional training in such areas as: Self-Injury Behaviour, Gender and Sexual Identity in Youth, Substance Abuse, Domestic Violence to Men, Suicide Intervention and Anxiety Disorders. email
Charles Alton, is in his fourth term as Secretary of the Board of Directors. Charles is a retired machinist and brings a committment to help Shore Counselling grow and move forward. He is a keen outdoor enthusiast and his only other association with counselling has been as a client. email
Joanne Cooper, is in her second term on the Board of Directors and is Treasurer of the Board of Directors. Joanne brings a great deal of experience with dealing with community issues and is excited by the work that the Agency is doing and planning to do. email

Alita Madisen came to the Board of Directors at the start of 2011 just before the AGM. Alita is a mother of two teens and has had opportunities to work with counsellors and therapists in her own evolution. Valuing the work of Shore Counselling, and getting involved to continue to expand and thrive as a NPO is the reason she has chosen to become involved on the Board. With over 10 years in office administration, a love for collaborative teams, and a desire to serve in community, she looks forward to contributing to the success of Shore Counselling Society. email
Frances Gregg is new to the Board of Directors with the 2011 Annual General Meeting. Frances came to the Board of Shore Counselling this spring. She has a Mental Health Certificate, Management for Adults in a Residential Setting and has taken many workshops in the areas of mental health and developmental disabilities. She is presently employed at KDJ Alliances Holdings Ltd as an Operation Manager. Frances has worked for 30 years with the developmentally disabled in a variety of support positions and has found the work the be both very interesting and rewarding. email
Nalatie Luchtmeyer, B.A., C.Y.C., is also new to the Board of Directors with the 2011 AGM. Natalie is a wife & mother of 2 young children. She has lived in Nanaimo since 1996. She is starting her Master’s in Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria in September 2011. Natalie has worked in the CYC field since 2006 at Nanaimo Family Resource Programs. She is a Board Member because she believes in the philosophies and directives of its programs. She is excited to learn, contribute to and grow from the experiences she will have within this Organization. email
Kelly Pile, B.A. C.Y.C., is also new to the Board of Directors with the 2011 AGM. Kelly is a third generation lifetime resident of Nanaimo. She has had over 10 years of NPO experience with such organizations as Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada and others. Her passions include trauma healing, self esteem building, addictions & recovery and special needs (all among children and youth). She has been involved in the foreign exchange program for over 5 years. She believes that behavioural challenges are just the puzzle. The behaviours come from self esteem issues that lead to the behavioural challenge, addictions, etc. She also believes that it is important for professionals to volunteer and thus sees her Board work with Shore as an opportunity to interact with other professionals in the counselling and empowerment of people’s lives. Kelly brings the child and youth perspective to the table. email
